The PERRIN Performance™ Big MAF Intake System is a tuners dream.
When used in tandem with the PERRIN™ Fuel injector modification and aftermarket electronics the "Big MAF" intake will allow the user to tune an aftermarket ECU safely and accurately. Add resolution in fuel maps and load columns, compensate air fuel ratio, idle, and wide open throttle maps.
The PERRIN Performance™ Big MAF intake system is designed to prevent the Mass Air Flow output value from being pegged on heavily modified Subaru engines. Turbo charged engines are prone to the accumulation of an oil sludge mixture inside the intake tract. Oil vapor is forced out of the cylinder head and directed through vacuum hose into the intake system to meet clean air regulations.
The added oil within the intake system can lower the octane rating of your fuel and create a carbon, oil sludge build-up in your intake system. Oil vapor condenses onto all surfaces within your intercooler and intake system lowering the thermal efficiency of your intercooler.
Legacy CATCH CANThe PERRIN Performance™ oil catch can will remove and hold this oily byproduct prior to the intake air stream. Eliminating the engines current requirement to try and reburn this relatively noncombustible oil will increase horsepower and performance.

The PERRIN™ intercooler is 11" x 10.8" x 4" with an internal volume of 475 cubic inches. That's almost twice the volume at 98%. The core internal air passages have an inside diameter of .375 inches. That is almost 2 times as large internal passageways for higher internal air charge flow.

The PERRIN™ up-pipe replaces the factory exhaust pipe connecting the exhaust manifold to the turbo charger.
The factory up-pipe hinders engine performance because the design includes a restrictive catalytic converter and a corrugated expansion joint. Replacing the factory up-pipe with a PERRIN Performance™ up-pipe will increase exhaust flow rates and spool the turbo faster providing more horsepower at a lower RPM.
Failures of the factory up-pipe are common on heavily modified Subaru's. Damage from pieces of the catalytic converter and the e.g.t. sensor probe being ingested into the turbo can occur.
legacy uppipeThe PERRIN Performance™ up-pipe is fully constructed of mandrel bent stainless steel. We have chosen to move beyond 304 to 321 stainless for its high strength rating under extreme temperatures and resistance to weld failures. The up-pipe is one of the hottest components of the exhaust system and 321 stainless will ensure the extra longevity of your up-pipe. The PERRIN 1/2" flange design prevents warping at high temperatures and insures a leak free seal.
The proper inside diameter of 1.62 inches is critical. Pre-turbo exhaust velocity is critical to boost response. Improperly oversized header and up-pipe systems lower exhaust velocities slowing spool up for larger turbo's decreasing power and increasing boost lag.
Subaru legacy uppipeThe PERRIN Performance™ up-pipe is specifically engineered with no provisional bung for the factory EGT sensor. Our extensive testing and data logging has shows the factory ECU does not use the e.g.t. sensor for air/fuel adjustment.
The factory ECU uses the EGT sensor reading to kill the motor if temperatures exceed 1800 degrees. Once temperatures exceed 1800 degrees internal engine damage will have occurred. The sensor is simply not needed for run function and is likely to produce problems if reused.
We recommend that you do not remove this sensor form your factory up-pipe during installation. Instead, leave it installed in the factory up-pipe and store it with your other factory components removed during build up.
Monitoring your exhaust gas temperature is recommended for both proper tuning and safety. Please use a high quality electronic gauge and mount the temperature probe closer to the engine within the header system. The up-pipe is a poor mounting location because it is to far away from the exhaust ports for an accurate temperature reading.
Plug the included resistor into the EGT sensor wire harness to insure no check engine lights.

Stock Down PipeTo increase exhaust velocity all piping is made of mandrel bent, 3" diameter stainless steel piping. Bends are minimized throughout the entire length of the down pipe smoothing exhaust flow.
FlangingThe stock Subaru down pipe has no built in provision for expelled waste gate gasses. These gases are forced to combine with the exhaust gas coming from the turbo turbine causing turbulence, which can impede exhaust flow. PERRIN Performance™ produces an extremely cost effective alternative to aftermarket fuel injectors.
PERRIN Performance™ will modify your existing injectors for use with a larger than stock turbo, higher boost and aftermarket electronics.
The PERRIN Performance™ modification consists of a special machining technique in which, using a custom end mill, we remove the screen on the end of the fuel injectors.
Through our web site and the PERRIN™ network of dealer's consumers can participate in the fuel injector core modification program. PERRIN™ will take your own fuel injectors, modify them and return them to you now able to support higher horsepower and boost.
The stock STI fuel injectors flow 550cc of fuel or 52.4lb/hr. When modified by PERRIN™ your injectors will flow 816cc/min or 77.81 lb/hr. Almost a 50% gain in fuel flow. At the stock injector flow of 550cc your Subaru will max out at 320hp-380hp (Crank HP) With the new PERRIN™ modified 816cc fuel flow rate your engine now has enough flow for 480hp-550hp. Each fuel injector is precision machined to flow in excess of 816cc. Injector "on time" is not affected by modifying OEM STI injectors.
A larger fuel pump than stock, preferably 255lph or higher, must be used in order to keep up with the larger injectors.
How the program works:

PERRIN Performance™ will then precision machine the injectors to flow in excess of 816cc. The injectors are then shipped, fully insured, next day air directly back to the customer.
